Two Nannies And A Convertible . . .
Well, today was a really funny rainy day....I went to BELMAR with Michi, in her own "Nanny car" (=Ford Mustang Convertible -> looks nice but what a tricky car in fact!!)..lol...
unfortunately we're both no experts when it comes to cars and so we had some interesting experiences during the day, which all had to do with driving in fact,lol..
At first, we had great fun finding the right way from Tinton Falls to Belmar (we only got a sheet with the directions from Sharon), but we tried hard and after stopping only once (!) to ask for the way we really got there after 40 mins!!!!!! Were so proud of us!! Beacuse all the exits are quite confusing (...hey, do we have to take 18 B? or 138 South? Oh, or was it 138 North!? let's just try this one...)
..although Americans don't realize this in fact, just like the two very nice men at the gas station near Belmar, who were nearly laughing at us when we asked for the way. Oh, or was it because when we "tried" to get into that car (well, okay, the convertible was without the roof, but as civilized Austrian nannies we wanted to take the doors) again, we didn't get how to unlock it with this key you just have to press, and accidentally activated the alarm??? In fact alarm is really understated, as this sound got louder and louder and changed its rhythm about three times! Well, finally we, of course, figured everything out and got into our "Flitzer"... But... well, we were so busy finding the right way again, that we totally overlooked the fact that we just bounced over the sidewalk edge right into the street instead of taking the driveway out of the parking lot.... But we're not these kind of boring people, we want to have fun, too! lol
On went our journey and we spent a great day at the beach of Belmar! It was soooo incredibly hot, which really means something as I love the heat! But here it is jsut so humid (Oh yes, the Sullivans were absolutely right in In America) that it's difficult to concentrate on anything else than lying around. But the really strange thing is that, when we had the brilliant idea of refreshing ourselves in the sea, we had to find out that the difference between the temperatureof the air and the water is just UNBEARABLE! The water is freezing, you can't believe it!!
Well, this was the water-air experience (which in fact gave away immediately that we were the only tourists,or strangers at that beach, as we were the only ones who started screaming and giggling like crazy when we went it first!) but this is still to be topped by the fading out of our trip:
When we got back to our friend, the convertible ,at about half past 5, dark clouds were suddenly filling the sky and it looked very much like rain coming up! Where's the problem you think??
Well, it wouldn't have been one if we had known how to put on the roof of this damn thing...
We even found the right button to do it, clearly marked be the sign of a car with it's roof closing, but it just WOULD NOT WORK, believe it or not! And by the time we had called Kevin (=poor owner of the car), who verified the way how to do it (and that it obviously wouldn't work sometimes), the rain had turned into a great storm, and we were already soaked, sitting in the car, having a hard time finding out how the windscreen wipers are working, again.......... : I Since it was still quite warm, we wouldn't have minded a little nice shower, but we were a bit worried about the back seats and all our stuff in the car getting totally wet.... What's more, Michaela couldn't really see a lot anymore about where we were driving (although she tried to hide under the sun shield (which is still drenched at the moment..lol) --> looking forward to upload the pics I took of that scene.... : )))
Well, after an unsuccessful quest for a roofed space in the whole town, we decided to just drive home throuhg the rain - it couldn't get any worse anyway!! : P
Fortunately, the rain even stopped after some minutes then and we had a nice and wet journey home (had to turn around just once)...
And I'm really glad the Kevin wasn't angry at all, he even found the story very funny (just as everyone else of course)
So, all in all, it was really a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to our next trip with the convertible...
Special thanks to Kevin for providing Michaela's "Nanny car"! : ))
Tomorrow I'm probably going to stay at home with Brady (=the baby) while Kathleen and Brad will take Ryan and Ashley to Bradley Beach! So I suppose I'll have a lot of time to write e-mails and entries... (Only if I won't get crazy changing his diapers, for the first time on my own)..
Hope you're all doing good and thanks so much for all the very nice e-mails so far! I am happy about receiving every single one!!! (and will respond as soon as possible)
See you soon, take care,
Elis

hey elis!
I just wanted to let you know that I also really enjoy reading your blog entries, especially this one about our trip to Belmar :) I was laughing out loud when I read it... I will never ever forget that day. I'll try to upload the pictures asap on my blog, although I think they are a bit embarrassing ;)
I'm looking forward to our next trip with the convertible...
