What a difficult journey...thanks fors letting me enter guys!!
I still can't believe it, but I'm really here, and so far everything's worked out quite well. The journey wasn't that comfortable though, as the flight was stressful, with nearly any time to change planes in London and a delay of about two hours. The whole journey from my house in Murau to the O'Connors' house took me incredible 25 hours... Plus, they nearly wouldn't let me enter the country at the airport in Newark..lol...
little excerpt of the scene:
-- Newark Int'l Airport, Friday, June 30, 7:21 pm --
Unfriendly intimidating American customs man: "Passport please"
innocent Austrian Au Pair hands over passport.
Looking at passport for at least 20 seconds, looking at Au Pair, looking at passport, UIACM, murmuring: "Hmm.....thasyou? Thinkyagonnaneedanewpicturesoon young miss"
IAAP, trying to impress with best English: "Pardon me, Sir?"
UIACM, angry: "I SAID YOU WILL NEED A NEW PICTURE SOON CAUSE THIS ONE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE YOU AT ALL!"
IAAP: "Oh, I see, Sir....."
UIACM hands back passport, tells Au Pair to do fingerprints, while doing so: "What is the purpose of your stay in the US?" [most unfriendly face ever and a dark, strict voice]
IAAP: "Ummm.....I'm visiting....friends [well, I'll be working for a family, illicit, as an Au Pair, but never mind, I'm leaving presents worth at least 30 $ in the US] ]..."
UIACM: "Friends [quite suspicious!]...uhu.....for how long?"
IAAP: "Umm....two months [and 5 days, who cares]"
UIACM: "Two months? that's a long time for a visit [what a bad lier!]"
IAAP: "Well, it's my holidays from university"
UIACM: "University [pff, doesn't she know that's called College here?]....so what are you studying?"
IAAP, smiling nicely : "Interpreting of English in fact [let's forget about French for now]"
UIACM: "Interpreting? Hmm.... [how suspicious again, why isn't her English better then??]...."
Finally.....after a little thinking and recognizing the desperate look in IAAP's eyes: "...well, then have nice stay in the USA"
IAAP: "Thanks, Sir" - trying to leave as quickly as possible -- taking the wrong way, oops -- turning around, okay, entered US!!!
